WOMEN’S BOOK DISCUSSION

We are going to read, “Present Over Perfect” by Shauna Niequist this fall.  You are invited to join us for weekly discussions in the  David Bacon room at 9 am Sundays. .

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BIBLE STUDY

The Wednesday Bible Study (1:00 PM) will be a study of the Gospel of Luke. For this particular study, I will continue to utilize the series entitled “Genesis to Revelation.” While there are participant books that go with this study, you need not purchase one. (You may purchase a book if you desire. They are readily available on Amazon.com for $12.99.) The real text will be the Gospel itself. I have created a schedule (see our website) for each week identifying which chapter(s) we will be studying. If you read through the “assigned” reading each week, you will have what you need to know for each study.

This study will begin on September 21, 2022. Week one (Sept 21) will be an overview of the Gospel of Luke as well as Luke chapters 1-2 in particular. While you need not read anything beyond the first two chapters, you could do a perusal through Luke. You could get acquainted with the length, chapter divisions, and overall timeline. Luke is one of the longer Gospels, but it shouldn’t take too long to leaf through it a bit. Many bibles have subheadings that allow you to get a sense of what each section is about. Though these are someone else’s interpretive framework, they may help you get an overall sense of the flow of the Gospel.

FALL BOOK STUDY

The Fall Book Study (4:00 PM Wednesdays NEW TIME) will be a discussion of the book “Convictions” by Marcus Borg. On the occasion of his seventieth birthday, the renowned scholar Marcus J. Borg shared how he formed his bedrock religious beliefs, contending that Christians in America are at their best when they focus on hope and transformation and so shows how we can return to what really matters most. The result is a manifesto for all Christians who seek the best path for following Jesus today. With each chapter embodying a distinct conviction, Borg writes provocatively and compellingly on the beliefs that can deeply ground us and guide us.

Borg calls all American Christians to reject divisiveness and exclusivity and create communities that celebrate joy, possibility, and renewal. Throughout, he reflects on what matters most, bringing to earth the kingdom of God Jesus talked about and transforming our relationships with one another.

The book is readily available at Amazon or Barnes & Noble. This 10-week study will begin on Wednesday, September 21st at the NEW TIME of 4:00 PM.

OKTOBERFEST 2022 | OCT. 22 | 5:00-8:00 PM

Join your church family for some fall fun!

Oktoberfest began as a wedding celebration when King Ludwig I married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. The celebration caught on and is now the largest Volkfestival in the world. Read more by clicking here!

We’ll provide Bratwurst and pretzels. Bring a side dish/desert to share – perhaps a “German” recipe?! We’ll gather in the Fellowship Hall for an evening of fun, fellowship and food. Please sign up in the Atrium beginning Sunday, October 2 (so we can have an idea of the number attending!) Sign up HERE!

STEWARDSHIP 2023 | begins Sunday, Oct. 23rd

Our God is a generous God: A God who has been revealed in Jesus as the one who deeply and passionately loves us. Our God is a God of invitation: who invites us on a faithful path of transformation that changes us, and through us changes the world. This year’s Stewardship Campaign will explore how our gifts “radiate” outward as we give generously to the ministry of FCC. We will be invited to consider how we are transformed by our experience at the Abundant Table. Through “From Bread and Wine to Faith and Giving”, we will experience a season of thoughtful study and discernment about how we can bring our best before God. This year’s campaign will begin on Sunday, October 23. The campaign will culminate on Sunday, November 13 on Consecration Sunday when we bring our 2023 pledge cards forward!

TRUNK OR TREAT | OCT. 30TH @ 3:00 PM

Everyone is encouraged to be creative and come to our Trunk or Treat festival.  It will be outside and plenty of space to spread out.  Plan to decorate your trunk, a little game worked well and a treat for our little trick or treaters.  Children must be accompanied by and adult while walking around the cars.  If you are decorating a car, please plan to be ready by 2:45 pm.  To register your car for this event, please email Wendy Brown, wbrownfcc@sbcglobal.net.  We are opening this to the community, so the number of children is unknown.  Sign up HERE!

YOUTH FALL RETREAT | NOV. 4-6TH

On November 4th-6th Youth Ministries is embarking on our Fall Retreat to Camp Y-Noah. Youth in grades 6th-12th are invited to attend; the cost is $70 per youth, which incudes, 2 nights of lodging, 4 meals, snacks, and 3 hours of programming with camp Y-Noah staff. We ask that youth interested in attending turn in their $70 by October 2, 2022. Youth Ministries with the support of Christian Education and members of our church will cover the other anticipated costs. If you have questions or concerns with the cost, please contact Derek or a member of the office staff to discuss options available.

SILENT AUCTION | NOV. 6TH AFTER WORSHIP

Trustees will be sponsoring a silent auction on Sunday November 6th after our worship service. Lunch will be available. Money raised will be earmarked for a railing to our altar, updating our basement youth room and hopefully new PCs for Dan and Derek.

Please bring auction items in now or call for pick up. This event takes a lot of coordination so sooner is better. The contact is Jane Huffman. She can be reached at jhuffman5040@yahoo.com or 330-633-9628. Let’s make this our best auction yet.
