Lent is a time of 40 days of prayer, fasting, giving, and other disciplines which are meant to draw us closer to God through Jesus Christ. Without the disciplines of our faith, we cannot get to the culmination of God’s love of the Passion, the last week of Jesus’ life, and the cross. Without Calvary, there is no Easter. Each of us has favorite and meaningful thoughts about Lent -personal and yet community oriented. A time to strengthen our faith.
In this day and age of political turmoil (which took place in Jesus’ day, too), Covid-19, mental and emotional stress, depression, people out of work, social disengagement, and other hardships, we not only look for relief, but for hope and reassurance. We need God’s love. We desire God’s forgiveness and restoration. We want to see more of the sun in the days ahead. And more of the SON.
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, root-ed and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
